Heterogeneous metallaphotoredox catalysis in a continuous-flow packed-bed reactor
Metallaphotoredox catalysis is a robust synthetic platform enabling mild cross-couplings without noble metals, increasingly applied in drug discovery for sustainable and scalable reactions. We present a continuous-flow approach using a novel heterogeneous catalyst combining photo- and nickel catalysis in one material. Implemented in a packed-bed reactor, this catalyst streamlines reaction and separation, simplifying translation from batch to flow conditions. Demonstrated with metallaphotoredox cross-coupling of sulfinates with aryl halides, the catalyst exhibited stability (≈1% yield decrease per day) over seven days and effective C–O arylations using carboxylic acids as nucleophiles.
